There are so many reasons to visit the RiverPark & Museum in Tunica, Mississippi. Museum? Check. Aquarium? Check. Nature trail? A boat launch? A venue for your next big event? Check, check, and check.
All of this and more in an unforgettable building right along the Mississippi River.
Let’s start outside and work our way in, shall we?
The Tunica RiverPark
Upon arrival, you’ll notice the architectural beauty of the museum. Take a minute to enjoy the view then turn your attention to the awe-inspiring Mississippi River. The RiverPark spans 130 acres, offering plenty of space to admire the beloved river.
Take an easy hike along the 3.1 mile nature trail. Benches are strategically placed for taking breaks or just admiring the view.
Keep an eye out for meandering deer and other wildlife.
There are some signs and plaques along the RiverPark, treating you to fascinating information about the Mississippi River and its history.
The Tunica RiverPark is quite the hidden gem. It is rarely busy which lends to the peacefulness of the grounds. Once you’ve soaked up the gardens, nature trail, and an up close view of the river, find your way to the patio of the museum. What a view!
There’s even rocking chairs that’ll beckon you to sit for as long as time permits. The slow river traffic will keep you well
entertained.
If you’re looking to launch your boat onto the Mississippi River, The RiverPark is the place to do it. The boat launch is spacious and easy to use. There is ample parking as well. The current price for launching your boat is $10 for the day.
The Tunica Museum
While the RiverPark is very satisfying, to skip out on the museum would be doing yourself a disservice. Admiring the river will surely whet your appetite for more information about it as well as Mississippi history.
The reasonably priced museum has changing exhibits, all dedicated to Mississippi and it’s rich history. Some of the exhibits include local artwork and wildlife photography. You’ll find stories of the Native American mound builders and black family history.
Complete with interactive exhibits and authentic artifacts, you’ll surely fall in love with Mississippi if you haven’t already. Be sure to take the time to admire the freshwater creatures housed in the aquarium, as well!
A unique feature of the museum that you won’t want to miss is the 48 foot observation deck overlooking the river. You won’t find another view of the river quite like this one. It makes for some of the most beautiful photography or a rather romantic setting. Maybe a little of both.
Before calling it a (wonderful) day, stop into the gift shop and be sure to stop over at the Gateway to the Blues Museum a few minutes away.
