Popcorn!

As an adult I’ve never taken the time to make popcorn on the stove. It’s always been microwave popcorn. I finally decided to change that and give the stove top popcorn a try. I have very fond memories of my mom popping corn this way..as a child I loved shaking the Hamady bag after mom poured the melted butter on top (Hamady was a chain grocery store in the greater flint area…we didn’t have paper bags at the house, we had Hamady bags ) Making the popcorn was just as I remember and brought back great memories. Don’t think we’ll ever go back to microwave popcorn now.

Quite honestly, I can’t believe we haven’t done this sooner. It’s cheap, takes about the same amount of time as microwave popcorn and tastes lots better.

Gourmet Caramel Apples

Made gourmet caramel apples with the kids the other night. I remembered to take some photos to share with you.

Start with yummy Honey Crisp Apples:

Crush up lots of yummy toppings:

Melt some caramel balls (are these a great invention or what??? no more unwrapping lots and lots of caramels):

Prep your apples:

Dip apples in caramel, roll in crushed yummies and top with drizzled chocolate, add sprinkles if desired:

YUM!!!

Yum!! Raspberry Jam

Up bright n early this a.m. to make some raspberry jam This was easy peasy to make. Just mash up some berries, mix in 1 1/2 cups of sugar and a packet of no-cook jam preserve (from Ball). Put in freezer containers and you are all done. Love easy recipes. Do you have an easy recipe for preserve the fruits of summer?

What I’m Reading

So far so good. Very fun read. I’m about 1/2 way through and it’s been very entertaining.

I’m on the hunt for a percolator so that I can try her coffee recipe. Alan recently had some coffee made similar to this and he raves about it.

I’m also going to give the bread recipe (WITHOUT a bread maker) a go.

I love her chapter on beekeeping—although it sounds fascinating I’m not sure we’ll ever be ready to take that step. Beekeeping seems a little daunting although I’m completely intrigued by the bee’s social system I’m not sure its a road we’ll ever be ready to go down. If you’re a beekeeper leave me a comment, I’d love to hear about it from some different perspectives.
