As a child we didn’t really travel much except for an occasional trip to see my Aunt in Virginia and we never traveled during the holidays. It was a 13 hour car ride from our house to hers and we often drove it at night so “the kids would sleep.” The trips were long and boring and “are we there yet?” could be heard about every 3 minutes by 3 different children. It must have drove my mom batty.
When I was around 6 my parent took us on a road trip to Colorado. I don’t remember the trip, but I have photos as proof. We made the drive from Michigan and drove through South Dakota so we could stop at Mount Rushmore. Somewhere along the way we had a flat tire and mom decided to capture the moment of us standing in front of the car with Dad changing the tire.

This photo crack Em up…she love’s the 70′s outfit I’m wearing. She’s like “Mom, where’s your shirt??” Hey, it’s the 70′s that’s how it was done. Actually, I probably got hot and since my baby sister didn’t have to wear a shirt I wasn’t going to wear one either. I was a sassy kid like that.
Road trips can be a lot of fun, but they can put some miles on your car. That is one of the reasons Alan prefers renting a car. I’d rather drive our own because I hate the expense of a rental, but I think we may have found a good compromise with Alamo rent a car.

This was the first trip I ever tried coffee, and didn’t like it. ha. I also lost a tooth in the backseat of their car. I will never forget that trip, we had a lot of fun.

I’m not sure if it was a “favorite” but in October we drove from Iowa to Florida. I say not favorite as we drove with a 5 year old, 4 year old, and twins under 1 LOL. But we saw so many amazing things and watching the kids experience things for the first times is what made the long insane drive worth it!
This past May we took the kids to Florida on a road trip. It was so fun to watch them experience seeing the states and stopping at different places for them to try.
On the way home from SC a few years back I had to entertain my son with barn yard animal noises. He thought it was fun, I didn’t really after 11 hours :/ lol

My disease taking a drastic turn. Questions like this 1 have been circling in my mind since my recent bad news update. I would love to take my family and my brother’s family to Disney World not for our sake but to see the magic through their eyes and let them have their own unforgettable experience. When I was very small my family took a road trip to see my grandparents. When we finally got there everyone was super excited and piled out of the van. I was the last one and before I could get out my grandparents ‘pet’ cow stuck her head in the door. I was petrified and neither one of us moved for what seemed like hours. Finally, they realized that I’d been missing for quite awhile and came looking for me. Of course my siblings thought it was hilarious that I’d been held hostage by a cow.
My favorite memory was we traveled with my grandparents and cousins in Europe. It was fun to meet up with family from different cities and then headed to the final destination-Provence.

All got packed, I got taken to the train to Paris (6h), the conductor got informed, I had a sign around my neck stating the address and my mother waved good bye. I was sitting in the corner and watched the world fly by. Wanting to be even more a big girl. I took off my sign and ordered cacao. I arrived in Paris not one ounce afraid. But proud to the bone. years later I learned that my two adult brothers were strategically placed in both adjoining compartments ensuring my safety. Boosted my confidence and made me believe I can achieve all I set my heart on!Even today I feel excitement stepping of the train in Paris awaited y my uncle.

Every year I take a road trip with my girlfriends to the beach. We talk and laugh all the way there and back.
When we lived in California, we took trips to the mountains to camp all the time as a family. One time, as we started up the winding mountain road we heard a strange sound. Thinking it was something wrong with the engine we stopped and Dad took a look. There was a kitten hidden in the engine! It must have fallen asleep there enjoying the warmth and then woke up as we started the mountain road and got scared. That kitten lived a long and healthy life after that.
One time we went to Glen Rose, Texas to visit Fossil Rim Wildlife. And after we were done, we weren’t ready to go home. So we decided to drive another 2 hours to Dublin, TX and get some cane sugar Dr Pepper! Only thing, they didn’t have cans, only bottles that had a cap you needed bottle openers for. From the time I was 13 to 21, I took an annual trip with my parents and siblings from NY to Reno, Nevada. One of my best memories was when we stopped at a rest area and had a picnic and got to play at the park. We must have been whining in the car and they must have decided we needed our exercise since there were children ranging from 6 to 17. I think traveling across the country is a bonding times for families.

In 1998 my Mom and I were driving with a carload of my things (I was moving from one state to another) and we hit something. It was dark so we couldn’t see what it was. We pulled over and some nice truck drivers helped us get going again. We stayed at a hotel, then drove on the next day, and a tire blew out, probably from whatever we hit the night before. A gas station was within several yards and we made it there. A man came out of the gas station and said he would change the tire for us. We didn’t realize until he refused payment that he didn’t work there – he was a customer! God and a few of his angels here on earth were looking out for us that trip!
We only went on one family road trip, and it was to Yellowstone! It was amazing, from what I can remember. But I do recall stepping in moose poop in my new shoes!

Before the show, we ended up meeting the band’s road manager and gave him a little something to give the band. When the show started our little memento was on the drum kit in the center of the stage. We were on cloud 9 for the drive home…though we did run over a massive deer which had been struck by a previous car. We were quite adventurous!

I have a couple of favorites but the one that taught me a HUGE lesson in life was a trip with my mom. She was a “single” mom of NINE, divorced and went back to school at age 43. She decided to take us 4 youngest kids to Chicago one summer. Scared to death and confidence shaken, lived on a farm in the ‘boonies” all her life, we headed out to drive to my Aunt and Uncles house in the heart of Chicago. We got LOST in an area called “the Loop”. Now even at MY age I don’t even know what that means. It meant the FEAR OF GOD to her though. And then, The car just QUIT, in the middle of an inner city area. No cell phones then. No “manly man” to help us. So, we flagged help. Got to a station somehow…I am not sure even how because the radiator was steaming out what i THOUGHT was smoke. I was so frightened. But, after 3 hours in a service station enjoying a few sodas, we got a ride with my uncle to their house. We had such a wonderful time swimming in my aunt and uncle’s pool and just letting go of the stress that mom and we ALL had going through this time in our life. We got that OLD Oldsmobile going again and headed home after four days of fun! I learned that my mom is a strong woman, that she is our protector (still at 80 years old) and that nothing is too hard in life. (I’ve had to learn that a LOT;) I learned how to take care of myself and my kids when I also got divorced many years later, and learned how to change my own oil and other minor car care jobs. I went to work for a company as an adult and several times had to drive to Chicago to work there. And guess what? I got LOST! I just remembered that long ago trip with my mom and got out of it all alone. Proceeded to drive home in a BLIZZARD and could not wait to get home. Traveling is fun, but truly, there IS no place like home and no one on this Earth that can teach you more than good old MOM!
My favorite road trip was when we drove to Ohio. We went through a drive thru zoo.
Definitely not my most favorite because I was SO tired, but it was fun! Driving my sister to move to Manhattan from Missouri. We drove 2 days straight. We were so tired. I could barely keep my eyes open!
We drove to Fl once. My baby could just reach his hand out and grab the end of a grocery bag. The crinkle sound kept him content the whole 24 hour ride.
We went to Alabama when we were kids. I thought it was so neat because they had Red Dirt.. hahhaha and we had brown.. little things in life to smile about!
Had to relieve myself. In the desert. At night. I had just cut my foot, so I was wearing a bandage. Scared a scorpion, who was BETWEEN MY FEET.

When he was done he asked if we had any questions. My little sister lifted her head up from our dad’s shoulder and said, “Can we go to the beach now?” It got some laughs and the water never felt so good!

Let’s see. One road trip, my mother decided to get a roll of quarters for each family member. For the entire trip, every time we said something rude or mean, we had to put one of our quarters into a cup. If we ran out of the roll of quarters, we had to use our own. If we still had quarters left at the end of the week, we could keep them. I was the only one with quarters left! My secret? Read the entire trip and tune everyone out!

My “favorite” was the time I drove 2,000 miles across country BY MYSELF…straight through only stopping to go to the bathroom and get gas. I wanted to get home lol. I didn’t sleep until I got home.
Road tripping 1500 miles with my husband, we had the best time ever just the two of us. It’s good to take the kids to the grandparents and road trip with your spouse!!
Most memorable would be the trip from SC to FL through Hurricane Charlie! CRAZY trip!
When we were driving back from Florida our alternator had died and wasn’t charging our battery. So every hour or so we would need to pull over and beg someone to let us charge our battery off their vehicle. We finally made it home in time for work and were able to get our car to a local shop.
I took a trip across the USA with my parents when I a kid and the pics bring back good memories.

our whole gang went camping for a week, one day we went to the local beach and there were razor clams everywhere and every one of us got cuts on their feet, so we now call it blood beach.
My husband and I took a road trip to Biloxi, and we loved it so much we moved there.
My husband and I once took a very special road trip through the mountains of Colorado and into Wyoming – breathtaking scenery!
I remember heading to Iowa and my dad is not a speeder but we were running late and he got pulled over going 85 in a 65 lol so lets say the cop got him super upset and it ruined our trip

When we went to the mountains, the trip was nice. The view was outstanding.
It is never too late to have a favorite roadtrip. 2 years ago, my faughter and her boyfriend packed up my husband and I anwe drove from Wi to Wamego Ks. to see our son and her brother. This was no easy trip . My husband is on oxygen and we had to take an oxygen concentrator , a portable device with us. Getting ready for this trip was like preparing to climb Mt Everest. My husband was crabbing all the way. Who says kids can be the only irritant on a road trip? We were in Illinois and he was asking if we wh=ere there yet! Susan even rented an SUV to take everything with us. And we had a great time. even the crab .
When I was in high-school, I had the crappiest car ever! Its amazing it even got me out of the driveway. The heat didn’t work, one window was broken, it was severely rusty, the tires were awful, and the cloth on the inner roof was caving in.
One day a friend and I decided to go to the mall. Not the greatest idea considering it was a 60 mile drive. But as teenagers we did what we wanted… not what was best.
Everything went fine until the way home. I didn’t feel so great so my girlfriend offered to drive. We had just bbeen talking about how my car wouldn’t last much longer when, out of nowhere, it began to pour! The rain was coming down in sheets! My friend went to turn on the wipers and they didn’t work!
As she rolled the window down, the whole window slid down off the track. We slowed down, laughing so hard! Being the rebel she was, my girlfriend sped back up onto.the highway and stuck her head out the now nonexistent window. She managed to drive this way for the remaining 45 minute drive home.
I will never forget the sight of her, soaking wet, head out the window, wiping the water from her face every 10 seconds or so. Great friend and a hilarious roadtrip!
My favorite is going to the smokey mountains and going to the highest point! It was amazing!
when the van broke down in south dakota
Tell me your favorite favorite road trip story.
ca to la when i was 7..its all a blur…hotels, grand canyon..balony and cheese..
My favorite road trip took place a few years ago, when my three sisters and families, parents, grandmother, and my own family took a trip together to Gatlinburg. We rented a huge cabin for the 16 of us, and all drove in a group of five vehicles for hours through a nonstop downpour. We stopped for breakfast and met up with a great-aunt there, we got lost in Knoxville, found the scariest, curviest mountain road shortcut to avoid traffic in Sevierville, and just had a great time together once we finally found our cabin.
Any of them really, I’ve been to so many cool places, mount rushmore and and the mountains of idaho seeing all the hot springs just next to the road, and seeing a heard of elk in montana, too many good ones and hopefully more to come
My favorite road trips were the ones my family would take to visit my grandma in Ohio when I was a kid – my parents would always stop at a roadside attraction that had a chicken that danced and played the piano, which became a family tradition and a source of a lot of fond (and funny) memories.
My favorite road trip by far was my sister and I cruising to Austin texas for a weekend of fun. It was a long drive but good music and snacks made it great
My favorite road trip was when at a spur of the moment my niece and I decided our familys should take a vacation to Florida. We had a yardsale to make sure we had enough money..filled the coolers and my husband,me,our niece, and her 3 kids..and my 2 kids piled into a car that drank more oil than gas..and headed to florida..i will never forget having kids laying in floor..in the back window..ect..but we had a blast and made it back home safe and sound. But i gotta say…..what an adventure!
My favorite road trip was our first visit to Disney World. We drove from IL to FL and ended up with a horrible virus the entire drive down there but still had a lot of fun.
I always remember playing silly games in the car with my family. We used to make words out of the plates
I once drove from PA to FL with an 80 year old and a 5 year old. If we weren’t stopping for coffee, we were stopping to pee!
My favorite road trip ever wasn’t even with my family (my parents were terribly reclusive people and going to the park or a library 10 minutes away was a “bother”), but with my fiance about a year and a half ago.
We drove all the way from Brandenburg, KY to Lexington and then Lancaster one summer. A very long drive and it took from 10 in the morning ’till 1 am to get back. I remember him poking me in the shoulder a few times on the drive back to make sure I was awake.
Then, just about any trip we took is one that I hold very dear to me.
Even though he isn’t with us anymore, I still feel him doing it now when I drive tired. “Just makin’ sure you’re awake, babbu.”
Driving from CT to Watkins Glen, NY in the fall to see the Formula 1 race. Catskills in fall foliage was a sight to see.
We took a trip to relocate cross country from California to New Jersey about 25 years ago with 3 kids and we loved it!
I don’t have one yet.
My favorite road trip was the first year I knew my husband. We headed out west to camp for two weeks. It was then that I knew that I could be with him for extended periods of time. From coming across a black bear to meeting a lot of random folks, it was an adventure to remember.
There’s been quite a few times that I’ve been the “navigator” with my husband and have navigated us totally wrong. One would think a GPS would help but there was the time he put the totally wrong address in!
I didnt travel much as a young child but my favorite road trip that i can remember was going with my mom and little brother to Long Island ny. We always played a license plate game lol..
My husband and I drove through the adirondacks and camped at 8 different campground over a week and a half. It was a blast!
when i wa slittle we crossed the usa with a oregnant cat, a pregnant dog and a hamster that would NOT stop running on his wheel- made for a LONG trip in the backseat!
driving from Key West to the middle of Florida with a dog, cat, two kids, and a turtle!
When I was a kid, my folks took me and my brothers on a trip around the country in our camper. Saw SO MANY things and it was a 4 week trip!

This year I drove on my first long road trip. We traveled from Chicago to Atlanta. I was so nervous! It was a beautiful drive through the mountains until I saw the truck runoff ramps! The scary part was they were on the left side of the road, but the semis were suppose to drive in the far right lane. That means they have 2 lanes of traffic to go across if the can’t stop. YIKES!
Driving 9 hours to Canada with my husband, we cracked up so much with his silliness. Lots of deep belly hysterical laughter.
We drove from ky to fla with the kids and loved the scenery along the way
DH likes to drive, so I get to be the navigator. We’ve taken a lot of scenic side trips thanks to my map reading “skills”. One of the most memorable was driving through Colorado and I found a shortcut – unfortunately it took us up and down a mountain and through the same town about six time on switchbacks to get to the top.
I remember driving 4 hours to West Virginia in my super old car. It barely made it up the steep hills there…it was scary!
My favorite road trip was visiting my grandma in west virginia.
Growing up once a year our family would travel to visit my grandparents which was about a 5 hour drive from our home. My brother & I would sing songs all the way there. I’m sure it drove our parents nuts
Driving cross country with my grandparents…in a trans am…without air conditioning. I sat in the back bucket seat for an endless number of hours with wind burns on my face…but it was all worth it!
My best roadtrip was when I drove to Florida right before a hurricane and drove back in one. It was exciting and stupid, but it was fun.
to add to my last story; that trip was done as a young adult- we were too poor to go anywhere when I was a kid.
i used to like traveling to Disneyland every year wih my family in our big old station wagon.
I loved travelling with my grandparents as a child. They were so much fun. We sang songs in the car the entire time, which is something the rest of my family definitely doesn’t do or tolerate. They would take me to Mardi Gras in Louisiana or to the state capital in Ohio or even to Yosemite Park in California. I wish I would’ve appreciated it more back then. Those were the days!
I was too young to remember any details but I remember we used to drive to Florida as a family and it was just so fun singing songs and just being with the fam for so long.
We travel to Florida to see relatives. I just love the fun games and pit stops we make. the drive is fun and then we go to the beach and have more fun
My favorite road trip was driving down to florida as a kid!

We drove across country to Florida where I saw the ocean for the first time and got to play on the beach.
traveling to daytona beach by car.i loved the scenery there
My favorite road trip story is a surprise Christmas trip we took from FL. to Ohio to surprise my mom and grandma on Christmas morning. The anticipation of that trip made the 1200 miles go a lot faster than it ever had before for me and the three children in the car with me.
I always loved road trips to the beach! We used to skip school and head out radio blaring!
Every year at Christmas we drive to my husband’s family’s house in Virginia. We sing songs, play “I Spy” & just enjoy each other’s company.
Driving with my husband from New York to Florida over three days and getting to stop in places I’ve never been before.
EVERY family roadtrip: every kid fights for 3 hours to have a window seat!
We drove to disney in florida and had the worst time finding a hotel room in georgia because of a boat show. We were so tired but the trip was still a lot of fun.

I love the pictures you posted! What a great giveaway!
I hit post before I told you about our family road trip to Lookout Mountain, TN, when my younger sister got carsick! The winding roads were too much for her and sometimes on those curvy roads headed up to see Ruby Falls there are no places to pull over! Very memorable!
I remember the year a friend was moving and we drove from California to New Orleans with her two cats in the car. It was quite a challenge trying to “walk” them at truck stops!
I was travelling with a family friend when we had a suffen blow out. I eased the car to the shoulder and discovered I did not have a spare. The girl I was travelling with asked what we could do and I said walk to the nearest exit and find help. As we were walking, a young man in a pick up truck gave us a lift…my travelling companion was beside herself with worry and aske, “Do you think he will take us into the desert and kill us?” I rolled my eyes and replied, “No, he will take us into the forest for that.” (we were going from the desert to the mountains and that was just my sarcastic humor.)
My husband and I once borrowed his brother’s car to go to the beach, as it was rough terrain and we have a tiny KIA. Needless to say, we returned with the vehicle being towed. I guess it couldn’t take the beating either.
We took many roadtrips as a child down to California to visit my grandmother and grandfather (I live in oregon) so we would sometimes leave in the middle of the night or sometimes really, really early in the morning and we would have snack food and just hit the road, with music on.. It is pretty good memories. We did run into some bad weather a time or two going over the pass but it was fun all in all..
I enjoyed the trips our parents took us on when we were young. We would go to the beach in South Carolina and have cookouts on the beach.
We never really went on road trips but we had a van just like that!
I remember falling a sleep when my mom picked my dad up from work, when I woke up we were three states away in Tenn. My dad had decided he wanted to visit his sister in Alabama, we stayed for a few hours and turned back around and drove home.
My Favorite road trip was when we drove non stop from Northern Pennsylvania to Southern Florida. It was a bunch of us in the car and we took turns driving and keeping the driver awake singing and playing games.
My favorite road trip was when me & my family drove from California to Oregon. We got to stop at lots of cool places, it was loads of fun!
Going to Orlando to go shopping!
driving to college from IL to Texas
my favorite road trip was going to see my family. The most remembered part was waiting for four hours for AAA so i could change a tire . The time I had with my kids was priceless and the memory will live on through to their kids. I think it is so cool how God blesses us out of the worst situations some times
My favorite roadtrip as a child was a trip to and from Colorado for my uncle’s wedding. We rushed to get there but then took a couple weeks to drive back and see all sorts of historical sites. We camped most nights and stayed with friends and family when we could. I have so many fun memories from that… including having to get out and push our minivan with the rest of my family while my dad steered so we could get up a hill to a lake where only 4×4′s usually could get.
When I was only 13, My 2 older brothers and I took a 3 day bus trip from California to South Dakota to visit my Aunt for the summer. It was a long trip for 3 young teenagers to go on their own, but lots of fun and a time I will always cherish.
Well, when I was a teenager. I was going with my sister and mom to Mississippi to the beach and it’s only about 2 hours away. It took us 6 hours to get there because we got lost so many times. I don’t even know how we made it there, but it was so fun to laugh about later.
One summer my husband and I drove from Seattle to San Diego to Florida to Boston, and our car did not have a/c! It was crazy, but fun.
I have not traveled so I do not have a road trip story but I would love to have a story to tell…
when i was little we drove from florida to north carolina and we rode in the back of the truck under the camper topper sometimes, it was fun!
When I was eleven we drove out to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with my grandparents. I have so many amazing memories of that trip
Trip to Mississippi two years ago. We followed the Blues markers around the Delta!
My husband and I and our two special needs foster adults went on a road trip across 12 states. OMG, it was so fun, but so much driving, since I was the only driver. We saw Graceland, Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Washington DC and LOTS of places starting in TX. WOW, what a trip.
When my husband got out of the army we drove from upper state ny to California. We stopped at so many fun places along the way. It was a great way to reconnect as we had only visited each other for the previous 3 years.
When my sister and I was little we went on a family trip to Hershey park for the first time
Roadtripping to my first trip to disneyland with my best college buddies. We had a blast, and the best part was the drive.
Thanks for the giveaway…loved the late ’60′s – early ’70′s summer family road trips that my parents dragged us on every year, all over the country; I think we were lost at least 30% of the time !
I don’t really have many, but for a while, I was living in Ohio and my family lived in PA…400 mile drive each way. And for a while, I was driving it 2-3 times a month! And each way I would play ONE CD and just put it on repeat, because I could measure my distance/time by how many times the CD played. Plus my German Shepherd kept me company.
I loved road tripping with my husband and daughter through colorado and whyoming
Traveling to Tennessee where my brother used to live. I loved taking the trip when I was older more so since I had the chance to drive for 12 hours of course, but the best part of it all was stopping in Pennsylvania at one of the best restaurants and always remembering they had a giant cow on top of the restaurant. We always knew we were close to home when we came back from Tennessee when we saw that cow. The best trips ever were back and forth from here to Tennessee, always!
i dont have a good roadtrip story to tell but maybe i will eventually
When I was six, my grandma and grandpa came to visit and together with my baby brother and my parents, we drove from Oregon to LA. They had told me that we were going down to visit a family friend. After the excruciatingly long drive, I was grumpy and wanted to get out of the car. We were driving through the city, on our “way to the friend’s house” when my grandpa told me to read the signs. I did’t want to but I began to read the signs. After a few I read “Disneyland.”
We went to a different place this past summer, not quite the beach but close to the coast, a gigantic river actually. we had a great time while there but it was a really long drive.
