In February I had the honor of being invited to the Taste of the NFL event in Indianapolis. I was so excited to go to this event. I mean, what wasn’t to love? There was going to be food, NFL stars, music, wine, celebrities, and more. I was geeked!

I spent the afternoon getting dressed up for the event. Fancy hair, fancy makeup, fancy clothes and beautiful shoes. Oh, such pretty shoes. I was wearing an all black outfit, but my shoes were a gorgeous red velvet. I looked awesome!

Sadly, I don’t have any images of the shoes to share, so you’ll have to trust me that they were fantastic. They looked something like this:

I loved how these shoes looked on and they were so lovely with my all black outfit. Five minutes into the event I realized what a BIG mistake I had made with my choice of shoes.

The shoes were killing my feet. I tried to put on my happy face and just deal, but I was in agony and the event location was massive. I walked from one end of the venue to the other a number of times and by the time the night was over I barely made it to the limo. I immediately removed my shoes in the limo and never put them back on.

Yes, that means I walked from the limo to my hotel room barefoot. I don’t think my feet were ever happier than when I took off those shoes and I’ve never, ever put them back on. In fact, when I arrived home I immediately donated them to my local Goodwill.

So, if I had the opportunity to redo one moment in my recent past it would be to relive the Taste of the NFL event with COMFORTABLE shoes on. It was a great event, but I don’t feel like I enjoyed it as much as I could have if I’d worn proper footwear. Oh, to be able to go back would be a beautiful thing. However, I learned a very valuable lesson and that is to always, always, always take comfort over style.
