I hosted an Oscar Party last night for the first time ever. I can honestly say that I have never watched the Oscars all the way through. Sure I might catch bits and pieces here and there, but I’ve never watched it in its entirety. It was actually quite entertaining. Did you watch last night?
Apparently I need to see The King’s Speech. My friends loved it and it took Best Movie so it must be pretty good. Have you seen it?
I thought it would be fun to play Acceptance Speech Bingo during the Oscars. This bingo game was a riot. The squares had statements like “attendee caught looking bored”, “winner tears up during acceptance speech”, “loser looks shockingly disappointed”, etc, etc. One of my squares was “winner thanks God”. Ok, I’m not a religious nut or anything, but I didn’t hear one person thank God. My friend said the very first winner did, but I didn’t hear it. What is up with that? I would definitely play this bingo game again. Everyone had a lot of fun with it.
Under the bingo card was our Oscar Ballot. I think I guessed one correctly. One of my friends guessed about half of them correctly. She done the best out of all of us.
I took pieces of cardboard cut just a little bigger than the bingo card and painted them gold.
This is just some cheap gold paint, but it worked great.
Turns the cardboard from boring to pretty.
Emma helped me a lot. She arranged the tulips for the table
AND made the cupcakes.
The colors for the evening were black, gold, and red. You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find black and gold party supplies in an itty bitty town. If I do this again I’ll be sure to order online way in advance. The Orville Redenbacher Pop Up Bowls match my theme colors nicely
Laying everything out to make sure I have room.
Finished table display. I used martini glasses to put the different dips in. Since the party was so late at night I loosely based my menu off of Party Blue Prints Oscar Party Plan. I didn’t want to serve anything I had to cook and I wanted finger foods. I was suppose to serve guacamole, but I had an unfortunate accident during the prep phase which caused it to be pitched. I had to go with salsa and chips instead. In addition to salsa and chips I served a veggie tray, salami and cheese tray, crackers and hummus, red velvet cupcakes, and the new Orville Redenbacher Pop Up Bowls popcorn. We loved the design of Pop Up Bowls…it makes eating the popcorn from the bag much easier.
I made paper wraps for the candle and flower vases. The red tags have nominees written on them.
Pretty tulips. I have really been enjoying having tulips on my table this month. It’s been a great investment.
Cosmo makings…yum. yum. yum. It’s my favorite drink besides wine. I used Raspberry flavored Vodka, Cran-Raspberry juice, Triple Sec and a bit of lime juice. Oh my…so very good!
Me and some of my guests. Em took this photo for me. I had just shaken up some Cosmos…they were so good!!!
We had our own little pre party in the hot tub….there were some photos, but none of them were fit for posting
After the hot tub we headed inside to start our Oscar viewing. First things first, we had to mark our ballots.
It’s amazingly difficult to get good group photos in a small room, but I tried. (OT: I need to paint this room and I thought of going with all white walls, but do you think the furniture would match that??? I need an interior decorator)
Alan joined us for a bit. By the way, Alan’s Birthday is today!!! He’s 49. I don’t know how the heck he is so old because I’m still 30—lol. I tease him about his age a lot because he is a few years older (7) than I am.
The Oscars didn’t end until well after 11:30 p.m. (EST). My last guest left around 11:50, I quickly cleaned up a few things and fell into bed at Midnight. It was a long night, but I loved it. I didn’t love it so much when the alarm went off at 5 a.m., but that’s why the snooze button was invented. Overall, I had a great time and I’m so glad that I was given the opportunity to host this event.

Oh that game sounds hillarious! I'm curious what the unfortunate avocado incident was??!
Wow, I came across your blog via Blog Frog and the crazy gas prices topic and can't believe I haven't been a "follower" before now. Your Oscars party looks like it was a lot of fun. I adore tulips and the gift bags, wow, they look incredible.
@Jen. Let's just say never ever microwave an avocado in hopes of making it more mashable. Cooked avocado is not good. (((shudder))) So hard to find good avocados in the town
Your table is beautiful! Looks like everyone had a great time!

Those vases are way beyond my league.
I was pretty impressed with Party Blu Prints, I must say.
So… the gift bags??? AWESOME IDEA!
