And then there were 3….

Favorite family photo–2009

Big change happening around here. On Friday my son moved to a town about 3 hours away. The decision to move happened pretty quickly. He had spent the past 10 days at Grandma and Grandpa’s helping out and on Tuesday he was offered a job. He drove home on Wednesday night  and left again Friday morning.

He will be working at my sister’s cafe. We are fortunate that he has this opportunity especially in Michigan’s struggling economic climate. However, I miss him horribly and he’s only been gone a couple days.

I’m not sure where all the time went…he was just my baby boy and now he is all grown up and living far from home. I know that’s how it is suppose to be, but there is still an ache in my heart. The house feels different, quieter somehow. I guess we are all a bit mopey from missing him. We’ll adjust and move forward because that is really the only option. It looks like there will be road trips at least once a month to visit him. I’m just glad he’s within driving distance.

I’d love to hear how you adjusted to your children leaving home. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,

I feel your pain! This year mine will graduate from high school and college. I'm wondering how I will make the adjustment to having one actually gone. Wasn't it just yesterday that I was changing diapers and helping with homework???

They grow up so fast. But he's not out of your life forever. It's neat to see them out in the "real" world, making it on their own. You can see you've been a success as a parent. And soon-it will be YOUR time, and then the fun really begins!

It is kind of different with me and my son since he is much older, 41, and he has come back every now and then. I encourage him to have his own place as that is what you are supposed to do. My BIL is 62 and has NEVER left home, EVER. Has no friends and no relationships. You will survive it and adjust over time. Good luck!

Awwww, I kind tell you are happy/sad. I'm going to just lay in the floor and cry when my daughter decides to leave some day LOL

When my Josh was a fresh out of High School he went into the Marines. His boot camp was at Camp Pendleton which is San Diego. That was not too bad but when he graduated they sent him to Hawaii. This was in 98. I had him home 2 weeks in between and all of my 5 kids together for the last time. When I sent him to Hawaii I cried and cried. My husband John cried with me we were a mess.
