Family Road Trips

The dead of winter is always a rough time for me. The days are short and cold and the sun seldom shines. It’s the time of year when I start planning all the wonderful road trips I want to take with the family during the summer. Its an opportunity for me to focus on something positive. This year I’m planning at least three road trips. It’s going to be a great summer!

Road Trip #1: YELLOWSTONE

Its a heck of a drive from Michigan to Yellowstone. I plan on it taking at least two weeks round trip. We will sight see along the way and stop at quirky landmarks. We are looking forward to seeing the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore and staying at Custer State Park in South Dakota. Outside of Yellowstone I would love to attend a rodeo, cowboys and horses, oh my. We’ve never been to one and I think it would be some cultural enlightenment. Inside the park I hope to see wildlife, Old Faithful, and waterfalls. I also have some bloggy friends that live out this way as well that I would love to chat with over a cup of coffee.

Road Trip #2: HATTERAS, NORTH CAROLINA

Hatteras still remains our most favorite place on Earth. Off-season is our favorite time to visit. The beaches are empty, the weather is a bit cooler, and the pace of life is nice and slow. My favorite thing to do is get up early and watch the sun rise over the ocean. We can spend hours walking along the beach searching for the perfect sea shell. Watching the dolphins play off the shore is always a special treat.

Road Trip #3: MUNISING, MICHIGAN

Munising is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The perfect time to visit is in the fall when all the leaves are changing colors. There are many, many waterfalls in this region and it is a photographers paradise. We usually rent a cabin and spend our days hiking and beach combing the shores of Lake Superior.

Three wonderful road trips in the planning. Each one special and unique. I’m looking forward to finalizing all the details. As the kids get older spending time together on trips is even more special. It wont be long now before Dylan has moved out and Emma will be graduating from High School. I’ll continue to cherish our family travel as long as I can.

Cody, Wyoming has rodeo's going all the time in the summer. You have to stay at the Cody Cowboy cabins there–very nice, and the owners are a wonderful source of info on the region. We've been to Wyoming so many times I've lost count-I can tip you off to LOTS of neat daytrips. Let me know…
I know you'll enjoy yourself. And I'm wishing spring in early!!!

Second to Sanibel, Hatteras is my fave spot on the planet too. Growing up in Va Beach, our family took every vacation on the Outer Banks. I hope to see you in my neck of the woods some day. Love your blog- glad I found you!

I think those trips sound great. I usually like to stay somewhat close to home, because of the drive with the kids. They get restless very quickly. When I do take road trips with the kids I like to bring my Ipad with us. I work for DISH Network and purchased the sling adapter with them. I can access my DVR and watch TV anywhere I am at. The kids love it! They an watch all their favorite TV shows live and it keeps them quiet the whole car ride.
