Lunar Eclipse

Credit: Jim Fakatselis

Tonight is the Lunar Eclipse.  The thing that makes this so exciting is that the eclipse falls on the Winter Solstice. This will not happen again until 2094 according to NASA.

The eclipse will start at 1:33 a.m. (est) Total eclipse will be at 2:41 a.m. (est) and according to NASA the best time to crawl out of bed and take a peek is 3:17 a.m (est)–that’s when the moon is in the deepest shadow and has the best color. So set your alarm clock and go outside and check it out!  I’ll be crawling out of bed around 3 a.m. (est).  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the skies are clear–currently there are clouds :(

Cheers,

I usually get up a couple of times during the night so I will be checking on this, if I remember. It has been pretty cloudy here too so I hope it clears up by the early morning hours. Thanks for the heads up on this!

I'm hoping for clear skies as well! I always try to catch things like this or meteor showers! And, it's much nicer in the dead of winter when the bears are asleep–don't have to worry about THAT sneaking up on me in the dark!
We'll keep our fingers crossed on clear skies….
