Cleaning Virtual House

Whew!!! I was a busy girl yesterday cleanin’ up my virtual house. Do you ever do that?? (Please tell me I’m not alone).  Ya see, the email inbox had over 800 messages that had been read but never filed. Junk mail bin was overflowing.  My Google Reader was being fed by a couple hundred blogs (oh lordy, I hate to even admit that) and I was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep up on a reader that is that busy? You really don’t want to know.

So, yesterday I forced myself to clean house.  I sat down and went through all the emails and deleted them or put them into folders.  I went from over 800 to about 50.  Wow, that felt great.  Junk box was double checked for important emails and the rest were trashed.

Then it was onto the Google Reader. I found that you can click a handy little button in your settings that stops the reader from picking up the blogs you follow.  Those blogs still show up in my blogger profile, but are no longer fed to the reader.   I went from about 500 feeds down to 100.  I was spending too much scrolling through the feeds looking for the blogs I like to read.  By cleaning that up the only feeds I’m receiving are my daily must reads.  If I get a hankering to read a blog I follow I’ll just go to my blogger profile and find them there.

Now that my virtual house has been cleaned and organized I feel so much better.  IMO, there is nothing better than a clean house!! How about you?? Do you ever feel the need to clean your virtual house?

Cheers,
