Dreamin’ of Costa Rica

I’ve been planning our trip to Costa Rica and rented this beautiful home in Puerto Viejo for a week…it’s very close to the beach and just a 10-15 minute walk into town…..so pretty. They often have wild horse in the yard—Emma is just thrilled. I can see me spending some serious quality time in that hammock :)

Planning this trip has been interesting. Figuring out the logistics has been challenging. The cost of a rental car is ridiculously expensive. We might use some of the tourist buses they have that will take you from one town to another.

We are currently planning on visiting the following areas:

Monte Verde
La Fortuna
Tortuguero
Puerto Viejo

I’ve learned that Costa Rica is not a very cheap country to visit. I had orginally planned on $40/per person per day. Now that I’ve done some more research I think that will easily have to be increased to $50 or $60.

While I was checking prices for activities I about damn near had a heart attack! I thought I might find the courage to try a zip line. Sky Trek is a highly recommended company (and if I’m going to go flying through the air on just a bit of wire I want a good company). However, at $60/per person I think this is one event we’ll skip. I just can’t bring myself to pay $240 for ONE activity! I’m a frugal traveler and this definately doesn’t fit the frugal budget. I think we may just do a hanging bridges walk for $30/per person. Still expensive, but easier to fit in the budget.

Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing more as I finalize plans.

Are you a frugal traveler??

Oh yes, we try and budget and save wherever we can…even on vacation! One day maybe we can splurge and do WHATEVER we want, but we're not there right now. Never been to Costa Rica, so I'm looking forward to your trip :)

We try to be frugal, but we're not very good at it. lol. It happens when you bring cute kids w/ you everywhere…lol

This sounds like so much fun. My roommate went to Costa Rica and zip lined. She is a recreation and tourism major…so part of the trip was education related and part of it was fun stuff.
