Yard Sale Results–Ugh!

We spent a good month sorting through the house for the yard sale. I went through every cabinet, closet, nook, and cranny twice. If an item hadn’t been used in the last year it went in the yard sale pile. We then spent 2 days pricing everything….dear lord there was a lot of stuff!

Saturday morning we are up at 6 a.m. to set up. The weather started out with a bit of drizzle, but didn’t full out rain. After everything was set up, Emma and I headed off to the 4H fundraiser and left the guys to tend the sale.

There was a steady stream of people all morning. Emma and I came back around noon and worked the sale for the next 3 hours. The above photo was taken about half way through the sale. At 3 p.m. there was still a lot of stuff left so we packed Alan’s Tahoe up and he took it all to goodwill.

All that work and we made a whopping $190. Can I say it was so NOT worth it. Not even a little bit :( No more sales for us…everything can go to freecycle.com or Goodwill.

Do you bother with yard sales??? Do you think it is worth it?

I have done lots of garage sales and lately they ended up like yours. So..now I do goodwill, too.

Sorry you didn't make a load of cash.

My time and day I feel are worth more than the trouble I do with the sale and the little money we make. Sad. On the other hand…I love to go garage saling.

Yea, this last garage sale we did, we made about $200 and we thought about the work we put into it and it's totally NOT worth it. We've been taking things to resale and Goodwill/Clothing Donation. It's still "hopefully" going to someone who needs it?! Sorry you didn't make as much as you had wanted :(

Laurie, I agree, lots of people wanted the items for about 75% less than it was marked. Grrrr!

Momma, yep my time is worth WAY more than the money I made. I could have been sitting on the deck enjoying some martinis instead of working that hard ;)

Marissa, Goodwill is a good option, its where will be taking items from now on. Glad to know I'm not alone thinking its not worth the time and effort.

There are so many around here that I thought I really had to give one a try. We made only $100 — after two families came and stole stuff. No more sales. It just goes straight to Salvation Army and we take the tax credit.

Caution Flag…holy crap! The nerve of some people. Honestly!! Stealing from a yard sale, how freaking low can you get??
