Memorial Weekend

Spent part of this last weekend at the family cottage:

Took a walk with Emma to look for wild flowers. We found all sorts of fun things.

I love the smell of lilacs.

The peonies will be in bloom soon:

I thought this had an interesting texture and shape:

Something about old barns that I just love…not quite sure what it is, maybe its all the character that they hold:

Lantern that hangs on the cottage shed:

During the Memorial Weekend we usually have a family gathering and have a fish fry. Oh. My. Goodness. My brother in law, Keith, mans the friers. Alan helped out. Talk about a cholesterol fest…it’s oh so good though.

The guys in action:

Battering the fish is messy business. For the batter we use Drakes with some Old Bay seasoning and pepper. For the wet portion you can use a beer instead of water (makes it taste GREAT!) The dry is the same as the wet, minus the liquid (duh–lol)

Yuuuummmmmm!

No, we don’t stop at just frying the fish. We make french fries, chicken nuggets, and cheese sticks.

In the evening we deep fried apple and cherry fruit pies, bananas, and twinkies. It was dark so I didn’t get any photos, but trust me they were very, very good.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Do you have any family traditions for Memorial Weekend??? Leave me a comment and let me know what it is :)
